The Opposition National Super Alliance (Nasa) principals Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka, Moses Wetang’ula and Musalia Mudavadi yesterday accused the ruling Jubilee Party of scheming to rig the August 8 polls.

During a vote-hunting campaign in Tharaka Nithi county, they warned that they would be alert to any malpractice saying rigging has over the years denied the Opposition victory.

Addressing residents of Maara, Marimanti and Kathangachini in Tharaka South and North respectively, the Nasa leaders urged the electorate to be vigilant.

Raila said he has been a victim of rigging, claiming that he has lost previous elections because of massive rigging. Mudavadi claimed the manual back-up voting system that was approved by President Uhuru Kenyatta on January 9, 2017 was one of the schemes by Jubilee to rig elections.

Wetang’ula concurred with Mudavadi saying the move by Jubilee to block the use of exclusive electronic systems was an early signal of rigging scheme.

Kalonzo called on residents to vote for Nasa for a stable government that is free from insecurity and corruption. He, however, cautioned Tharaka Nithi Senator Kithure Kindiki against falling prey to Deputy President William Ruto’s overtures to pick him as his running mate in 2022. “I am telling my friend Kindiki to open his eyes and get out of the vague political dream and join NASA.

Jubilee will waste him,” he claimed. The principals, who were on a two-day campaign tour, also called on Mt Kenya East region to back NASA during the August 8 polls.

“We have come here as Nasa to listen to Kenyans in Mt Kenya East and push for a lasting change that is gathering momentum,” added Raila.

He noted that a divided Kenya cannot achieve developments, and that Nasa is working to unite Kenyans by fighting tribalism. He cautioned politicians against fuelling divisions by carrying out ethnic campaigns that may plunge the county into turmoil.
